Original Relief Prints by Norma Pfaff and Scratchboard by Tuula Rissanen Ross
Dates: Wednesday April 28 thru Sunday, May 30, 2010
Meet-The-Artist Reception
Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 7-9 p.m.

Pfaff’s interest in working on paper brought her to printmaking and the process of creating a print has kept her working in this media. Printmaking is a rich experience, tactile as well as visual. Her hand pulled prints have been part of the Washington Area Printmakers Calendar for 10 years and has required editions of as many as 150 hand pulled original prints.

Tuula Rissanen Ross is proud of her artistic ancestry. Her great uncle, Juho Rissanen, is a renowned Finnish artist. Her father, Kauko, was a master woodcarver who carved over 5,000 portraits in his lifetime, and her mother is a gifted fiber artist. She grew up in a household full of works of art that inspired her to draw and paint from an early age. Tuula’s medium of expression is scratchboard. This consists of a thin board layered with clay and top layered with ink. The ink is scraped away with a sharp tool to reveal the clay beneath. Often thin layers of colored ink are added after the scraping is done.

You can always see their work at Studio Building 5 and their individual studios 509 and 512 respectively at the Workhouse, Lorton, Va. (Corner of Ox and Lorton Roads) www.Workhousearts.org, http://workhousebuilding5.blogspot.com/
